Fun night I guess.

Woke up- yeahh we were up kind of late last night with PJ over for a while. Played around on stickam a bit....Not really much to say when we woke up. We were kind of freezing because I left a window open and the weather was in the 40apos;s.

Shopping Center- Went up to the shopping center with amanda and erika to hang out for a while. Ran into some friends then went to burger king for a bit. We left there and kinda just froze our butts off by sitting around a park drinking a couple of energy drinks. I had one too many and anyone watching would have thought I was going completely crazy or on something. Up to this point iapos;ve had 2 monsters, soda, green tea. The whole green tea thing is only becasue its freakin awesome. So much caffine in it that you wouldnapos;t even guess was there.

Now- So bored, nobodys chattin. Still setting up Firefox settings. Might head over to stickam for a bit. May even check out blog tv. Not really sure what to do.

On my recent stay with friends who live in a suburb outside Philadelphia I was impressed with the number and depth of their friendships. I saw Christian community like I haven't seen since I was in college. We had dinner with their friends on Saturday night, a group of eight came to their home for Bible Study on Sunday night, and on Monday night three of the people in their study came over for dinner. Some gut wrenching sharing of deeply personal issues followed by prayer ensued after dinner.

Wow They enjoyed relationships marked by authentic sharing, real listening, and prayer three nights in a row Radical. Closest thing to the Acts 2 community I've seen among real adults, not the kind that live in dorms and can walk five minutes to reach a friend. I'd like to have that.

How did this happen? This couple both grew up in California and moved to Pennsylvania some twenty years ago. They tell me that in their area people don't like to drive far. They consider going to the next state, though it's just two hours away, a very long distance. Going into Philadelphia, a 30-minute drive, is also a big trip.

This couple's church draws people from their geographical community. Not like mine which has people from 30 miles north of it and 30 miles south and from across a bridge. We apparently don't consider driving a big deal.

In this couple's group is a single woman who lives down the street. Other members and friends are relatively close too. This helps people to have unstructured time together, conversation that wasn't first planned and entered into a day-timer. When living close we can run into someone in a store or bop down the street with a basket of freshly picked apples to share and then chat.

I learned tonight that most Americans live isolated lives, but aren't aware of it. We don't realize that the anxiety - rather low levels or high - and the depression we feel come from lack of community. Our health suffers from our lack of relationships and then we go jogging or go see a doctor rather than look for what we need. Much of our culture so prizes individuality and achievements that we think stress is something we get rid of by working on ourselves. It doesn't occur to us that we need relationships to help us thrive.

More on this later. I need to practice some community here at home. I came home thirty minutes ago from a conference on small groups and haven't done much more than greet, smile at, kiss and hug my husband.

This dream made me think of Barbara, and her love of all things little, cute and fuzzy:

This morning I dreamed that I was vacationing at a hotel on the beach and that the hotel had a "sea cave" that was open to the ocean for people to swim. In my dream, a bunch of sea otter brought dozens of teeny tiny baby albino sea otters to the "sea cave" and abandoned them . The hotel management couldnapos;t have dozens of baby sea otters running around causing trouble, so they were gonna shove them out to sea to die. I had a purse big enough to fit half a dozen of the little guys in, so I grabbed them and took off before anyone could catch me, then I grabbed a bike and pedaled away for my great escape. . . And the prevailing memory of that dream. . . The part I took with me most into the waking world. . . Was how frustrating it is to keep six squirmy sea otters still in a sack.

They were like ferrets on crystal meth. . .

So many thoughts have plagued his mind since he was brought here. Thoughts of others, the hows and whys of the Island, and above all, the past and future. People and culture had changed so much over time, and he feels quite old-fashioned among them, with some difficulty fitting in. Not just in mind and speech, but in body, too.

Yet still... They were nice. They actually wanted to be friends with him... Though maybe he had just been lucky, and had just managed to avoid contact with unfriendly people so far. But even if they are few, an unexplainable warmness fills his mind thinking about them, his friends. Friendship is certainly a strange and wonderful thing.

He tries to clear his mind of these thoughts, tries to relax. A soft purple glow in his sensors indicate the use of Amnesia, carefully pushing away uneeded worries. Leaves sway in the low breeze, sighing and letting warm sunlight dance upon his armour. It would be all too easy to fall asleep in this tranquil setting, but he has to focus.

Concentrating, and trying to stay relaxed at the same time, he visualizes: being human, proper sight, having fun with his friends, belonging. His sensors begin to glow once more, slowly turning a bright white. He calls up some of the power deep within him, and the beginnings of a Flash Cannon form in front of him, before he notices and hastly swats it away, his focus broken. Transforming doesnapos;t need that type of power, he supposes.

His first failure disappoints and discourages him somewhat, and heapos;s reluctant to try again. But he thinks of Shaymin, Latias and the others... They believe in him, and he knows deep inside him that heapos;ll be able to do it eventually. He starts to concentrate again, thinking of their help and advice, of all the possibilities for the future, willing for it to happen. His sensors glow white.
